The Department came in to being in the year 1984 and initially was steered by late Prof.S.Kannappan. The un-tired efforts of the predecessors had brought in highly integrated and motivated staff strength and an excellent working atmosphere.The department today has comprises of sophisticated laboratory and workshop facilities ensuring on par with standards of global technical education.
The department is presently headed by Dr.D.Ravindran. The department, as on date has twenty two dedicated and experienced staff members with four doctoral degree holders and the remaining with their PG qualifications.
The staff members have more than 15 years of teaching and research experience. Currently, under graduate course in Mechanical Engineering and post graduations in M.E. (Manufacturing Engineering) and M.E. (Energy Engineering) are being conducted by the department. The department has well furnished class rooms and an air conditioned seminar hall.
The department has established a well planned CAD laboratory with the latest systems and advanced licensed software’s like Cosmos, MDT6.3, Nisa, Ansys 10, Catia V5 R10, Esprit, Solid Works, and Solid Cam which makes students to have a real time experience. The department has a well developed CNC laboratory with two turning centres, milling centre, five axes Robot with linear slide (FMS) and a microprocessor based drilling machine.
